Sustainable Farming
At Giant Food, we believe commitment to our food also means commitment to our environment. For this reason, we participate with our partners to initiate and follow programs to reach the ultimate goal of sustainable development.
We passionately embrace the four principles to meet the needs of the present without jeopardizing the future of our natural resources:

How Is This Done?
We focus on 11 sustainable indicators, following international initiatives that include soil, water, pesticide use, energy, biodiversity, social capital, animal welfare, waste, local community, and training.
Our Farms
We are situated in the west of Shandong, in the northern part of China, surrounded by pristine farmlands. Our location is strategically chosen on the most remote stretch of land to minimize the impacts of nearby urban developments. We operate based on wholly-owned fields as well as contract farms.
Method Of Assessment
We partner with Control Union for advisory and auditing services, ensuring compliance with standards such as Unilever’s Sustainable Agriculture Code and Global GAP. Additionally, we rely on Quickfire, a traceability and quality assurance to monitor and enhance the sustainability of our farms and fields.
In Control
Centralizing all purchases of seeds, fertilizers, and agrochemicals, such as pesticides, is strictly managed and monitored by our experienced agronomists and fieldsmen to ensuret hat our products are truly from field to fork.
Awareness
Constantly reviewing our pesticide positive list to ensure full awareness of the latest legislative changes.
Consistency
Every batch is thoroughly examined and screened for harmful substances before it is released to our customers.
Consistence with highest standards
Giant Food is continually raising its standards and has consistently maintained compliance with major certifications. Our production facilities have all been awarded an A grade by BRC (British Retail Consortium), which is the highest rating according to the world renowned food safety standards. We have received this grade every year since the standard was introduced.
Additional accreditations include ISYS, Valid-it, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), Halal, and Sedex – all internationally recognized and respected.
Social compliance is an integral part of our business strategy, with the goal of providing safe and appropriate working conditions in our production facilities while promoting worker participation in cultural and social well-being activities. Our social responsibility also extends to communities near our farmlands, where we have initiated development projects.
